Packing Checklist for a Los Angeles Move: Room-by-Room Guide

Good packing makes loading faster, protects belongings and makes unpacking easier. The goal is not simply to put everything into boxes; it is to make every box safe to carry and easy to identify.

Before you pack

Declutter first. Moving items you plan to throw away later costs time and space. Gather sturdy boxes, packing paper, tape, markers and specialty containers where needed.

Kitchen

Bedrooms

Living room

Photograph cable connections before disconnecting electronics. Pack remotes and cords together and label them. Do not put loose heavy objects into oversized boxes.

Bathroom

Discard expired products, tighten caps and place liquids in sealed bags. Keep medication and immediate toiletries in your essentials bag rather than on the truck.

Office

Back up important computers and keep critical records with you. Label cables and pack files so they remain upright and organized.

Garage and storage

These areas often take longer than expected. Sort them early and ask the mover about items that cannot be transported safely.

Labeling system

Write the destination room on the top and at least one side of every box. Add “FRAGILE” where appropriate and use a simple number system if you want to track the total box count.

First-night box

Include chargers, toilet paper, soap, towels, basic tools, bedding, medications, pet supplies, snacks and a change of clothes. Keep it easy to identify.
